I’ve been running Occam for 8 years and The Kipper Whippet Coat is my best-selling product.
When I started Occam I launched with two designs - Quinn, a sleeved woollen jumper, and Søren, a four-legged raincoat. At the time, these types of garments didn’t exist on the market and they were received very well!
As I continued working on Occam I made lots of iterations - refining those original designs, learning from them, and improving every detail to better suit both dogs and their owners.
The Kipper, which I’ve been selling for the past 4 years is the result of all of that work. It benefits from everything that came before it.
My customers live all over the world, in different climates and with different requirements. I think The Kipper has become the best - seller because it fits so universally with what most whippets need.
It’s essentially two pieces in one: a jumper and a raincoat. The outer layer is fully waterproof (not just water-resistant) while the inside is bonded with a soft fleece lining.
Rainy weather often comes with milder temperatures, whatever the season, so this piece is designed to be worn all year round. It's especially helpful if you have a whippet who zooms around non-stop and ends up with their tongue hanging out when too hot!
The front chest panel is stretchy, adding both comfort and flexibility, while the overall style stays effortlessly chic. You can instantly recognise it as an Occam garment because of my signature crossover chest detail and silhouette. This isn’t just a design feature - it creates a our signature shape while allowing complete freedom of movement.
The weight of the fabric helps the coat hold its shape, even during high - speed zoomies. It won’t shift from side to side, ride up, or become loose with movement - and even in windy conditions, there are no Marilyn Monroe moments as it stays exactly where it’s meant to.
It’s designed with real life in mind: easy to wash on a 30 degree short cycle and quick to dry (as you can see from Shadow in the photos). And if it really starts to chuck it down, the water simply runs off the fabric.
It’s incredibly easy to throw on and take off, making it as practical as it is stylish. We are making them in Navy and Black at the moment :)
